Summary:

Craft a few sentences with what you want people to know about you. How do you summarize your career and what sets you apart?  But don’t stop with your accomplishments – how do you capture your work personality in a few sentences?

 Examples:

“Creative social media manager with a passion for boosting brand awareness and customer engagement. Skilled in copywriting and graphic design tools. Managed over $20K monthly in paid social engagement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, gifted in helping entrepreneurs grow their online presence.”

Professional Experience:

  • You should have at least 3-4 bullet points here, summarizing your key achievements and responsibilities.

  • List your experience in reverse chronological order, starting with your most recent experience first.

  • If you’ve had a lot of job movement, list any outstanding reasons (i.e., company became insolvent, layoffs, etc.).

  • Make sure you include what you’ve accomplished during your tenure, not just your responsibilities. Think through major goals and milestones, projects you’ve led, etc. It is helpful to keep a running list of your accomplishments throughout your career so you don’t forget when it’s time to write a resume. Experts recommend you keep your resume updated on a yearly basis so that you keep track on all that you’ve accomplished.

Length:

  • Your resume does NOT need to be kept to one page, especially if you’ve been working for over 5 years, but generally no more than 2 pages is best.

Education & Technical Skills:

  • Include your education, including any specific honors.

  • Make sure you list all specific technical skills and software you have experience with. List these out separately so they are caught by any resume software the company might be using.

    • Technical expertise: SAP, Oracle, Quickbooks, SQL, etc.

    • Key skills: Lean Six Sigma, Risk Management, etc.
